Beginners’ Guide on Selecting Fish Tank
Many people who want to start maintaining an aquarium don’t have an idea what shape, size or type to buy. So they’d just buy whatever they come across without considering some important things first. If you want to make an aquarium and start a new hobby, just follow this guide to help you choose the perfect tank.
- Consider the space in your room where you are going to put your aquarium. You can’t just move it that easily once you change your mind. Filled tanks are heavy to move!
- Measure and take note of the size of the area for your reference.
- Use the measurements you took to find a tank with matching size once you visit a local pet store.
- Along with the consideration about the space, decide on what kind of fish you want to keep. Different kinds of fish require different conditions.
- About the shape of the tank, choose the one that is short but longer in shape over tall but with a thinner shape. This will provide your fish more surface area at the top of the water.
- Decide whether you want glass or acrylic. Glass is commonly recommended for beginners.
Since you are just starting out, it’s okay to start small. You can manage with a 20 or 30 gallon tank. Remember that while fish are easier pets than a dog, they still need some caring and cleaning up. A smaller tank will help you do just that.
