Buying a bird cage may not be that complicated although there are certain factors that you must take into consideration.  This is to make sure that your pet will be comfortable and safe inside the cage.

First, you must look at the size. Get the largest cage that is appropriate for your bird. Remember that even small birds require relatively large cages as they can be active and would need the exercise.

Next, consider the cage bar spacing. This would vary from bird to bird. For example, a cage with wide bar spacing that is just right for a macaw wouldn’t be a good idea if your pet is a canary. The right cage bar spacing can ensure greater safety for your bird. Choose the cage with the appropriate bar spacing to keep any part of your pet bird from getting stuck between the bars.

As for the shape, it’s better to avoid cylindrical bird cages. This type of bird cage tends to be too small and can make your pet feel insecure. If you’re buying a bird cage for a large parrot, pick a tall one to allow room for climbing. If it’s for a smaller bird, consider something wider to let your pet fly around inside.

Lastly, pick a cage that is easy to maintain. A pull out tray should be handy at the bottom of the cage to make cleaning easier. For thorough cleaning, the door should also allow easy access. Speaking of the door, make sure that it has a bird-proof latch. Birds can be really clever. You’d be surprised that a lousy door latch is nothing but chicken to them.

Many people who want to start maintaining an aquarium don’t have an idea what shape, size or type to buy. So they’d just buy whatever they come across without considering some important things first. If you want to make an aquarium and start a new hobby, just follow this guide to help you choose the perfect tank.

  • Consider the space in your room where you are going to put your aquarium. You can’t just move it that easily once you change your mind. Filled tanks are heavy to move!
  • Measure and take note of the size of the area for your reference.
  • Use the measurements you took to find a tank with matching size once you visit a local pet store.
  • Along with the consideration about the space, decide on what kind of fish you want to keep. Different kinds of fish require different conditions.
  • About the shape of the tank, choose the one that is short but longer in shape over tall but with a thinner shape. This will provide your fish more surface area at the top of the water.
  • Decide whether you want glass or acrylic. Glass is commonly recommended for beginners.

Since you are just starting out, it’s okay to start small. You can manage with a 20 or 30 gallon tank. Remember that while fish are easier pets than a dog, they still need some caring and cleaning up. A smaller tank will help you do just that.

These days, with all the talks about the benefits of going organic, everyone wants to find out what’s the rage is all about – by giving it a try. If it’s organic or natural, then it must be healthy. That’s the rationale. But for dog owners, it’s not an easy thing. Dogs are doing just fine with commercially available dog foods, why take the risk of switching to something different? Why mess with their dog’s diet?

If you are hesitating on giving your dog organic food, consider the following facts about organic dog food.

More nutritious. Organic dog foods don’t have preservatives, antibiotics, artificial colors and flavorings found in commercially-made food. Without them, the dog can absorb all the nutrients in every meal.

Provides energy and healthier weight. Since organic dog foods don’t have fillers, dogs are able to eat just enough to support daily activities and their optimum energy levels as well as bodily functions. They can maintain healthy weight easily as they eat less and absorb fewer calories.

Provides longer life. Organic pet foods improve the dog’s immunity due to the high Vitamin C and E content and the absence of additives. These make the dog protected from allergies and diseases.

Simply put, organic foods are healthier compared to other commercially-produced foods. And having said that, there are many products in the market that are cashing in on the popularity of organic and natural stuff. Be sure that you are giving your dog a certified organic food. Consult with your vet for your pet’s protection.

Flea treatments are always available from the veterinary. Your vet is in the best position to provide the appropriate flea control for dogs as flea control products are administered base on your dog’s age and its breed. But we can do some things on our own to control fleas.

There are environmental control that can help us prevent our dogs from catching fleas. By reducing the amount of fleas in our dog’s environment, we wouldn’t have to worry about fleas on our dogs.

Cleaning the area where our dog sleeps is the most important thing that we can do to get rid of fleas. If your dog is staying indoors, vacuum and clean the place thoroughly to remove any fleas that might be nesting there.

Regularly wash your dog’s bedding. This will help in getting rid of eggs and larvae and prevent them from growing into fleas. In addition to that, I would often spray my dog’s environment with flea powder and special sprays that effectively kill dog fleas on contact.

It is important for every dog owners to know how to control fleas. Dogs can pick up fleas from different places. But most likely, they can get it from the area where they stay the most. It is our responsibility to keep that area clean and flea-free.
